"MPS Micro Précision Systems AG optimizes the availability and traceability of cutting tools "

Founded in 1936, MPS Micro Précision Systems AG specialises in linear bearings and miniature ball screws. Their areas of expertise cover development, machining and assembly, offering a wide variety of products. They design tailor-made solutions known for their reliability, precision and compactness. MPS mainly serves demanding markets such as the medical (especially orthopaedics), watchmaking, automation, aerospace, science and optics industries.

Their Challenge

Our solution

Several ToolBox distribution cabinets were installed at our customer's site, notably in the cutting workshop for cutting tools and in the inspection department for measuring tools. In addition to this, a link was created with a software package used to manage measuring resources, in order to automatically synchronise the data relating to these tools. Thus, the company is now able to manage tool information exclusively via GMM software, which then transmits this data to our Hive – Inventory application.

In order to optimise processes, automatic order management has also been implemented. The tools are now ordered directly from our Brütsch/Rüegger Tools logistics centre in Urdorf on a daily basis. This has ensured continuous supply to date and has removed the need for manual ordering.

Benefits & advantages

The implementation of ToolBox automatic distribution cabinets and our Hive – Inventory application has significantly reduced the risk of tool losses and shortages while ensuring tool accessibility and traceability. In fact, every tool movement is now traced, giving MPS a clear view of who took what tool and when. This traceability increases accountability and transparency in the use of tools.

In addition, the ability to quickly edit inventories has made tool management more efficient, while reducing the time and resources required for monitoring in this area. Overstocking of tools is thus reduced, optimising storage space and the associated costs. Finally, the introduction of automatic ordering now ensures continuous replenishment of tools, minimising production downtime and guaranteeing constant availability.
