Materials for maximum precision, durability and skin compatibility
In the watchmaking industry, various lead-free materials are used to meet the highest requirements in terms of precision, corrosion resistance and skin compatibility. The most important materials include lead-free brass alloys, stainless steel and titanium alloys, ceramic and composite materials, as well as lead-free aluminium and bronze alloys.
Machining lead-free materials presents several challenges, particularly when compared to leaded alloys, which are known for their excellent machinability. Lead-free materials are harder and stronger, resulting in increased tool wear, especially in turning and milling operations. Unlike leaded alloys, they tend to produce long, tangled chips, which can negatively affect process reliability and surface quality.
The correct selection of tool geometries, coatings, cutting parameters and cooling and lubrication strategies is crucial to achieving optimal results.
Challenges in machining lead-free materials
- Increased tool load
- Poor chip formation and chip evacuation
- Higher cutting forces and temperature generation
- Reduced surface quality
Manufacturing solutions for watch industry components
From watch cases to plates, every component places the highest demands on material selection, machining and precision.
Each watch component requires specific machining steps – our solutions cover the entire manufacturing process. In this section, you will find detailed information on the most important components and their machining.
Precision, stability and functionality perfected
The watch case protects the movement from external influences, ensures stability and precision, and allows the integration of control elements. It combines functionality with the highest manufacturing quality and design standards.
The watch case is more than just protection – it is the face of the watch. It combines design, functionality and precision, safeguards the heart of the watch and gives it its character.
Protection and design in one
The case back closes the case from below and protects the movement from dust, moisture, dirt and mechanical influences. It provides structural stability to the watch case and securely holds all components together. It also contributes to the watch’s water resistance by forming a tight seal.
The heart of the mechanics
The watch plate forms the stable base on which all movement components are mounted and aligned. It connects elements such as gears, bearings and springs, ensuring precise positioning and secure fixation so that the movement operates accurately and reliably. Its robust design protects sensitive parts from wear and damage.
Central control elements for precision and protection
Pushers and crowns are key control elements of a watch. They must be manufactured with extreme precision to ensure reliable function and a high level of aesthetic quality. The crown also provides sealing of the case and supports water resistance.
Precision for a secure fit and perfect design
The watch bracelet ensures secure attachment of the watch to the wrist and provides high wearing comfort through ergonomic design and suitable materials. It is precisely manufactured to achieve an optimal fit. The bracelet also has a significant influence on the overall design and appearance of the watch, combining functionality with aesthetics.
High-precision gears for accurate movement
Gears control precise timekeeping by coordinating and transmitting movements within the mechanism. They are essential components of the movement, transferring the driving force through a high-precision gear system. They ensure that the hands move at exactly defined speeds to display the time accurately.
