With more than 75 years of expertise, Décovi SA, based in Vicques (Jura), specialises in the production of high-precision machined parts, regardless of their level of complexity. Their areas of expertise include machining, CNC turning, milling, laser engraving and decorating. Their components are used in a variety of industries, from watchmaking to the medical, aviation and defence industries, as well as all other sectors where technological advances are based on high-precision components.

Their Challenge

The company was having difficulties managing the whereabouts of its measuring instruments. Although it was already using a GMM software package, there was no reliable solution to secure these tools and monitor when they were taken out and returned. Traceability was poor, thus increasing the risks of loss and preventing any post-production analysis.

In a second phase, Décovi contacted us to set up a solution for monitoring and self-correction of its production machines. Indeed, the increasing complexity of the parts being manufactured made the calculation and application of offset correctors particularly difficult for non-expert operators. Variations in corrections applied by different employees also compromised repeatability and quality of production.

Our Solution

Regarding the management of measuring tools, ToolBox distribution cabinets have been installed and connected to the existing GMM software. The data is automatically imported and updated from the GMM software, allowing Décovi to continue using its management software while ensuring data integrity. This solution made it possible to secure and trace all movements of measuring instruments.

At the software level, we deployed the Hive – Shopfloor application from our Hive Digital Suite. This makes it possible to control and view the production status of the machines in real time. In collaboration with our client, we have also developed the Hive – Closed Loop module. This is a software program that automatically calculates and sends offset correctors to the machines.

Now, measuring instruments are managed with 100% reliable traceability. All movements are now tracked. Thanks to the secure, centralised management put in place, no measuring instruments are now lost. In addition, as the search and management functions for the measuring tools are more efficient, a significant time saving has been observed. Because data is captured in a single location, the time to locate and manage the instruments has been greatly reduced.

Now, our customer can also view the status of all their production machines in real time, globally, clearly and instantly. With this solution, Décovi can now undertake potential improvements in its production process. Lastly, the Hive – Closed Loop module allows offset correctors to be sent to a diverse range of machines. It should be noted that automatic self-correction of machines increases productivity by reducing manual interventions. Standardising the way in which offset corrections are calculated ensures greater repeatability and consistency in the production process.
