Intervertebral disc prosthesis machining: Precision for long-lasting implants

Perfect adaptation to anatomical structures — for reliable integration and long-lasting function.

Intervertebral disc prosthesis is a highly specialised implant solution for restoring the mobility and stability to the spine. It consists of two metal plates, which are made with titanium or a cobalt-chrome-molybdenum alloy and are provided with a special titanium coating. This rough surface allows for a combination of the adjacent vertebral bodies for secure and stable anchoring.

Between the metal plates there is a polyethylene or metal core that simulates a natural movement function.

State-of-the-art production technologies and specialised machining processes enable precise geometries, perfect surface quality and reliable implantation.

Materials and production

The intervertebral disc prosthesis consists of highly specialised materials that meet the highest requirements in terms of biocompatibility, stability and durability.

  • Titanium and cobalt chrome alloys: For maximum stability and anchoring in the body
  • Rough surface: Enables optimal ingrowth into the vertebrae
  • Polyethylene or metal core: Reproduction of natural movement functions

Machining technologies

Component machining requires high-precision manufacturing techniques to ensure an optimal fit and a long service life.

  • Microprocessing: High-precision processing of the smallest structures for perfect geometries
  • Milling: High-precision machining of metal plates for precise contours
  • Groove and thread machining: Optimal fixation and connection of the prosthesis to the vertebrae

Properties of an intervertebral disc prosthesis

  • High-performance materials
Titanium or cobalt chrome molybdenum for high stability and biocompatibility.

  • Two-part construction
Two metal plates with a polyethylene or metal core for natural mobility.

  • Optimised surface structure
Rougher surfaces allow better integration with the vertebral bodies.

  • Precise production technology
Maximum dimensional stability thanks to modern machining techniques.

"Intervertebral disc prosthesis" machining

High precision and surface quality for safe implantation

The manufacture of intervertebral disc prostheses places the highest demands on dimensional accuracy and material properties. Precise machining processes produce precise contours and optimised surfaces, enabling reliable operation and improved integration with adjacent vertebrae.
